Little is known about the enigmatic act Wom-bat, aside from the fact that he’s sitting on a chart-climbing breakout. With only a handful of productions to his name, the big-room upstart earned overnight rave recognition following his recent debut, “Wombasmile,” on Oxygen Recordings (an off-shoot of Spinnin’).

Next in line for the new blood is “Wombagirls.” Marked by a broken beat, boisterous basslines, and a spry, squelchy lead, the bit is undoubtedly the next step of the anonymous artist’s mainstage mean streak. If he carries on the way he stormed out, Wom-bat is cut out to be a longtime festival favorite.

He’s graciously decided to hand this one out to our readers. “I’m currently working on new, big projects and collaborations; it really is just getting started,” says Wom-bat. “This free track is a gift for you guys. Hope you enjoy it!”
Were you impulsive on this track, or did you have a sketch in mind before you started?
Usually, I have a rough idea in mind when starting to produce. I knew that after my tracks like “Wombasmile” or my Calvin Harris remix, I wanted to create something dark and dirty. The rest always comes during the production process.

Do you think advances in computer technology and gear have affected your creativity?
Definitely, in two ways: It became very easy and accessible to produce music in general, so you can basically produce whatever you feel like all the time, which is great. But the majority follows a trend, and the scene is pretty much saturated. Sometimes, it’s difficult to forget about everything that is out there and focus on your own style, which is in your heart. That’s what it’s all about.

What’s the takeaway here? Is there a message or vibe you hope to get across to listeners?
I’m very new to the scene and just had my first real release on Spinnin’ Records/ OXYGEN! People just started hearing about Wom-bat, and I wanted to show them more Wom-bat music very fast! My music can be very diverse and unique, and I just want to introduce more people to my music.

How do you measure the success of a track?
It is very difficult today to have one guideline of measuring success. Just because a track is in the Top 10 on Beatport doesn’t mean it’s really that good. Sometimes, unknown producers create huge tracks that no one really is aware of, but it still works great. For me, success starts when a single person gets totally crazy about my music and feels what feeling I was trying to create in the studio.

Choose one feeling that sums up this release, and describe it to us.
Absolute madness, crazy bass and simply Wom-bat music! One word to describe: Wombatoria!
