Simina Grigoriu Strings Together Intoxicating Tech Jam “Just Plane Drunk”
Being able to hang your hat in Berlin lends itself to more than bragging rights. It also means belonging to a city where influence is in overabundance, and local lady Simina Grigoriu has taken the leads from the underground metropolis and turned them into a growing body of work held dear by her techno monkeys (the term of endearment she uses for her fans).
Her latest outing sees her hitching onto the HMWL catalog with Hop Scotch. While the title cut has already created quite the stir, it’s the flipside we’re really feeling. “Just Plane Drunk” unfurls itself onto the deeper tinges of moody tech. “After a long and wonderful weekend, I decided to make a track on a plane,” Grigoriu tells Insomniac. “I ordered myself a scotch and sat down to write ‘Just Plane Drunk.’ How fitting.” Aside from being particularly punny, the production plops along propulsive drums and swelling chord strikes. It has all the right stuff to find its way into many a sunrise session.
