More often than not, the motivation behind forging an imprint is for artists to create a mainline to their own material. While Stacey Pullen does use his Blackflag Recordings for the same purpose, the Detroit techno veteran has made it his personal mission to give understated artists a solid springboard. He’s taken a particular interest in Spanish groove specialist Sergio Fernandez, who is now pulling in his third EP with Pullen.

All three tracks on World Rules fall severely in-step with the Blackflag aesthetic and are ripe for rotation. The titular offering is a genuine groove, with all the right components to find itself in the hands of the heavyweights that have supported Fernandez of late (the count includes Carl Cox, Marco Carola, Richie Hawtin, and others of the highest caliber). Tribal chanting dances circles around drums full of intent and discipline. It’s a grounded number, one that has the legs to go great lengths.

Says Fernandez:

When I started to create World Rules, I was looking for a good balance between the underground and the dancefloor sound. I really feel the groovy stuff: plenty of glitchy vocals, uplifting snares and funky beats! Releasing in a top label like Blackflag is always an honor. I am so proud that the legendary Stacey Pullen feels my sound. This is my third EP for Blackflag, and we always do a fantastic job putting the track in the best charts and getting the heavyweights of the industry playing the tracks.

Available via Blackflag Recordings.
