Kevin Over Takes German Brigante’s “Games” for a Wicked Spin

Spanish tech house honcho German Brigante’s sampling of Batman’s Bane on “Games”—from his Electombo EP on Manitox—makes the arch villain sound like a club kid with a bad attitude and a soft spot for sassy snares, gnarly synth grunts, and extended drum rolls. When Kevin Over’s rework punches up the original steady-roller’s tempo, you can almost imagine Bane trading his leather gear for Jane Fonda workout wear. Over also plays up the Latin percussion, hi-hats and melodic strings, scattering chopped-up piano bits among the squelches. For all our comic and comical references, there’s nothing funny about Brigante’s “Games” or Over’s remix. In fact, it’s a dark and solid tech house jam that becomes even funkier when it gets kicked up a notch.
