There seems to be no end to the amount of praise currently being directed at Yoann and Giles, and the two gents from Brussels deserve every shred of it. Through their GoldFFinch project, they’ve become a conduit for some of the most imaginative techno productions to surface from this day and age. Kudos are expected to hit the high-water mark this week, as the Belgian techno duo makes their return to Tiga’s vaunted Turbo Recordings.

Pressed onto their Proliferation EP are three new originals, all of which are bulging in the heady region. “For Future Use” is an obvious strongpoint featured on the release, denoted by its warm, analog pulse and a dystopian essence that’ll suck you in more and more with each play. Across the track’s six-minute run, GoldFFinch will scramble brainwaves and make gear-freaks all giddy with its orbiting synth patterns and creepy loops. Here’s what was going on inside their heads when they made it:

“For Future Use” started as just a simple fun jam with our gear—something we were messing around with to get us in the right frame of mind in the studio. But it turned out to be a cool tune and fitted nicely with the other tracks we’d made for Turbo. Once we knew we had something interesting going on, it needed a bit more polishing and took us some time to finish it, but we’re really happy with the final result. It’s not a typical techno track from us; it’s got a quite distinct flavor, and there are some sounds in there that will mess with your head. Still, it does exactly what it needs to do on the dancefloor. On another note, we were really pleased that the Black Dog chose to remix this track. They made two new versions for the EP, both proper dark techno club tools, so that was an honour!

Available April 22 via Turbo Recordings.
