After sowing the seeds of breakthrough success from a rather infectious debut, “Alright Then,” UK trio Passion Froot follows suit with another groundbreaking single. Landing on Obviously Recordings, “Room 4 One More” is a strong second release from the fresh-faced collective. Born from a slightly drunken studio session, it showcases the eclectic nature of its members Will, Robin and Mike, as dancehall-driven vocals share space with a club-friendly atmosphere.

There are two remixes attached to the release, arriving a week after the original. Bart B More takes up one of the spots, alongside South Africa’s most in-demand export, Das Kapital. He does his absolute worst to the tune, shoving it onto the radar of those seeking grittier, grimier material. The vocal keeps the same emphasis on Kapital’s take, but it’s met with a more aggressive framework made of shuffling drums, raspy synthwork, and big-boy basslines.

Here’s what he had to say about it all:

When the Passion Froot guys sent through “Room 4 One More,” looking for a remix, I knew I was going to have a lot of fun putting together my version. The original mix is cheeky, clean and quite upbeat, and that’s usually my cue to make things darker and more driving. I wanted to make a track that felt rough and heavy, but still tight and technical enough that’s identifiably still my sound. I imagine my version of the track as if the vocalist from Passion Froot was having the same conversation with the same person, at a much later part of the evening, maybe feeling a little bit more confident.

The track itself is a mix of sounds I’m inspired by (as my tracks always end up), which makes it hard to pin down an exact genre or sound. It’s part UK grime, part house music, part warehouse rave—but all in all, it’s a club track that takes you on a journey. All I want from my tracks is to elicit an emotional response in people, through little changes in mood, attitude and sound. I’ve managed to strike that balance pretty well on this remix, and it’s definitely inspired the direction for a lot of the new music I have forthcoming before the end of the year.

Available September 9 via Obviously Recordings.
