In his brief but aggressively active rise, Pierce has become a legitimate threat after the torrential downpour of high-strung bass creations he’s thrown out thus far. The Los Angeles–based artist officially made the watch list after shelling out super ripped trap and dubstep releases on mega imprint Spinnin’. It was his debut EP, Audi, that really ramped up the hype and eventually put him on the radar of the Bassrush team. At that point, the crew had no other choice than to hit him up for the label’s next offering.

Hijack is what he came back with, and it’s a mischievous two-tracker that shows him commandeering the bottom-end like the wicked mastermind that he is. On the title cut, he dumps out everything in his arsenal to craft a kamikaze-style bass bit.

“If there was a word I would use to describe this song, it would be ‘terrifying,’” he tells Insomniac. “My whole goal with this tune was to try and make the most haunting, over-aggressive, scariest song I could imagine. From adding screams of horror from certain scary movies to also including the most violent bass sounds I could make, I think I achieved the overall vibe very nicely.”

Blowing up the B-side is “Set It Off,” which takes a much more relaxed approach, comparatively speaking—yet it still goes off with a bang. Centered on a chirpy melody and ego-boosting vocal hook, the tune swings back and forth between catchy and crunchy. Regardless of which track you’re feeling the most, both are being offered up at no cost below, so get on it.
