AFFKT Crafts Warm and Moody Techno With “Fosc”

Spanish innovator AFFKT is back to drop a quick but completely satisfying pair of tracks on Coyu’s Suara Music imprint. Though each is unique in its own way, both carry the undertones that AFFKT has been perfecting across the last decade.

The first of the two is “Fosc,” a journey unto itself. Straddling the line between deep house and dark tech house, it comes in stripped and cold with a thick and pulsing kick. As the sounds unfold, a hazy black demeanor seems to take form. Percussive and hypnotic, while punctuated by rough-edged bursts, this mood is instantly wiped away by a piano flourish. As the track’s identity grows, flecks of almost jazz and disco drip through, twisting “Fosc” into something warmer and more emotional. The groove stays locked, while blissfully catchy synths chime in to elevate the tune even further.

The dynamic, however, stays mystical and cinematic throughout. It brings a warm tension that is sure to keep listeners engaged on the path that AFFKT has laid down. And even though the tone shifts periodically—along with the soundscape—none of it feels forced or disjointed. It’s the kind of well-thought-out track that is sure to touch audiences on many levels as they float through the ether it weaves.

‘“Fosc’ is a track that arises from my fascination for Bugge Wesseltoft’s music,” AFFKT tells Insomniac. “I really like his compositional work; the way he inserts darkness with flashing lights and bittersweet notes, Bugge is able to touch your heart and soul. I caught that inspiration but bringing it to my own ground—a more techno sound. I have tried to build… a ‘glue’ to stick sounds and feelings together, so ‘Fosc’ and ‘Laberinto’—the other original cut included in the release—are slow-cooked compositions, music pieces stimulated by a personal maturation and evolutionary growth as a producer, given by years of experience.”
