Uto Karem Gets “Dazed” on His New LP

Following up well-received EPs on respected underground labels like Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8, Tronic, and SCI+TEC, Italian techno stalwart Uto Karem has been hunkered down in his studio working on his upcoming album, Waking Up the Neighbours, which is due this June.

“Dazed” is the first of two new singles to surface from the LP—and shows Karem in fine form. The pulsating track drives dancefloor tension as it builds, featuring fast-flowing percussion and a melancholy synthline that’s a perfect counterpunch to the pounding drums.

“The idea to write an album came after years of releasing singles and remixes, because I wanted something that could showcase my musical background without following any hype of the moment,” Karem tells Insomniac. “The idea of the album is to have something that will still be meaningful when I look back in 10 or 20 years, and something that incorporates elements of everything that has influenced me so far. I picked ‘Dazed’ as the first single, because in many ways, it’s the track which best incorporates all my influences. Plus, it’s neither the deepest or hardest track from the full release, so good middle ground.”
