Track of the Day: Volac “Russian Style”

AC Slater’s been kicking out bangers on his Night Bass imprint for a few years now, creating a catalog that puts a dark, funky spin on UK garage, grime, and bass house vibes.

The next release from the NB camp is an international affair that sees Volac pouring in their country’s flair. Thematically, and in its title, “Russian Style” stomps and squeaks like an exotic monster that sounds menacing but really just wants to get down.

The house duo is already kicking up dust in their homeland, as well as in South America, and “Russian Style”—backed with breakbeat flipside “Faith in You”—should go a long way toward increasing their reach Stateside. Given how the Cold War has ramped up again recently, we welcome the thaw from Volac’s bass house heat.
