The primary focus of any dance music artist hoping to catch a break—especially in a market where impressions are the lifeblood of your career—should be to secure a plot within the sonic landscape that no one else has laid claim to yet. For Valy Mo, this sector of house is something he’s been chipping away at for years but has always had trouble putting into words—until now. The dynamic French producer is officially slapping a name on the sound he’s perfected: laser house.

“Over the years, I couldn’t really describe my style,” Valy Mo admits. “I finally found a name inspired mainly by house—rhythmic and aggressive but catchy synth toplines. With ‘No Joy,’ I’m proud to introduce you to this new subgenre and hope you will love it!”

This is certainly not the first time Valy Mo has run with the Pinnacle Collective catalog, but it does mark his first appearance on the imprint with the new “laser house” term. It’s an apt descriptor that completely captures the raw and rave-ready vibe he uses to power his productions. A thudding four-on-the-floor rhythm holds everything in place, while a low-slung bassline bangs out underneath a freezing-cold vocal loop calling out the song’s title, discordant piano stabs, and of course, shuttering laser synths that screech out in all their late-night glory.

This is barely the beginning for Valy Mo, and he couldn’t have asked for a better way to get this new subgenre off the ground.

Available August 10 via Pinnacle Collective.
