The cutting edge is where Kasra’s Critical Music feels the most comfortable. They’ve made it a point to slip into the cracks and crevices of drum & bass, always looking to break new ground with their unconventional catalog. Doing that and much more, the UK imprint bags the next boundary-pusher for the eighth installment of its Binary series. Across his four-track effort, London’s Vromm backdoors the mainframe by flitting between cinematic contours and avant-garde arrangements in such a way that makes you question whether bass music has been doing it all wrong until now. With closing cut “Zombie,” Vromm focuses his time on the body as much as he does the brain, grouping together surgical percussive programming with layers of sinister textures ready to take out chunks from your cerebral cortex.
