The Foreigners might be an unfamiliar name to those clinging to the surface, but that doesn’t mean the Bulgarian duo isn’t doing big things. After earning the approval of deep wizard Damian Lazarus last year, Faris and Sandro have been racking up points from many of their underground peers. They’re on the verge of saying goodbye to their homeland in order to relocate to Barcelona, where techno and house are second to none.

Before the move, they’re letting go of a vicious two-tracker that’s created entirely with the club in mind. On the lead cut, “Friendly Fire,” they’ve synergized with fellow native Shosho to shoot off a grab-you-by-the-collar cut that is sure to make the rounds. Marked by pumping drum work and snippy, sub-assailing textures, this one will hit the hardest when you least expect it.

Available October 10 via Toy Tonic Records.
Did you discuss or exchange ideas with other producers while creating this track?
We did have some discussions and got very good feedback from Metodi Hristov.

Were you impulsive on this track, or did you have a sketch in mind before you started?
We were quite impulsive on this track, and to be honest, it is based on a period of true friendly fire within our close circle.

Do you think advances in computer technology and gear have affected your creativity?
To some extent, they have. Current advances in technology definitely grant a lot of new possibilities to explore. However, they possess an even greater potential to get you off-track and make the process of recording more complex. That’s why we try to stick to more simple setups and hands-on equipment.

Who is the ideal person to remix this track?
&ME, currently one of our favorite remixers.

Have you played this one out in any of your sets? If so, what was the response?
Yes, of course, as we always test our music before we’re sure it’s ready to go. And we were pretty certain this one works.

What’s your favorite sound/synth/effect/etc. used here?
There are actually quite a few, from the twisted vocal cuts to the synths talking to each other and the synth layer building up during the break, which kicks in at the drop to make the track even bigger.
