Rob Hes demonstrates a wide range of expression and creativity for his upcoming EP, The Solution, on Christian Smith’s Tronic imprint. And while all the tracks explore the hazy regions of tech house, “Beloved” proves to be a particularly otherworldly journey.

A steady kick thumps away like a thin slice of rubber-wrapped steel before its train of thought is eventually cut by a murmuring, psychedelic voice. Slowly, more sounds are added to the percussive ranks, each one expressing a raw, analog personality. Voices continue to wander reverberously through, coupled from time to time with hissing bursts that feel as though they are slipping between the layers of space.

In due time, bass and synthlines drop down into the mix; both are equally catchy and own a retro style. This track floats along like the undulating fins of a manta ray. The dynamic shifts in and out overtop the hissing percussion, which fires away like a machine with no off switch. Leaving the way it came in, on a set of looping beats, “Beloved” is given an eternal feel, as though, somewhere out there, this track may still be churning along. It is an utterly hypnotizing piece that will surely take listeners into another place entirely.

“What I appreciate most about the track is that it has this hypnotizing melodic hook, which gradually develops into this raw and filthy sound,” Rob tells Insomniac. “It was the first time me and LAAT worked together in the studio, but we were totally in sync. Once we were done, we both knew we had something special on our hands. It does wonders on the dancefloor.”
