Katharsys Unleashes Darkside “Revival”

The French duo known as Katharsys conjure up the dark anxieties of a world fraught with fear, terror, chaos and war, injecting them into the dark and brooding atmospheres and heavyweight grooves at the core of their forthcoming Metallicity LP on Othercide Records.

Living up to its name, the duo promises a cathartic experience for listeners both on and off the dancefloor. Stating their purpose as one that promises “an extreme change in emotion that results in renewal, restoration and revitalization,” the crew give a very real sense that the pummelling they’re about to deliver is meant to prepare you for the primal purge still to come.

Originally linking up in 2001 over a shared love of dark drum & bass from the likes of Tech Itch and Konflict, Katharsys have since pushed beyond the confines of festival-friendly neurofunk and into a sound equally driven by aggression and spirituality. Take our Track of the Day, “Revival”; an unforgiving, lurching beat hammers home the message with a relentless fervor that brings on a kind of hypnotic release. The sci-fi–horror atmospheres and vocal stabs make for a brutal and nasty, yet absolutely stunning ride into the heart of a twitching, strychnine-laced dreamscape that will have you coming back for more.
