Taste the Rainbow on Sweet Teeth’s Frenetic Bass Stormer “Skittles”
Long before Erich Hoffman was chewing on the bottom-heavy flavors of dance music under his Sweet Teeth project, the Philly kid was glued to his guitar. But even after he got a taste for trap and dubstep, his flame for crafting face-melting riffs is still burning strong. He’s a rock star at heart, and you can hear him shred like one on his latest single for MMAD Records.
Don’t let the name “Skittles” fool you; there is nothing sugar-coated about this frenetic concoction. Blaring sirens and a weather-warning sample hint at the destructive forces at play here. Metal-tinted arpeggs twist the build until its breaking point, where a violent storm of croaking synths rains down and turns into a double-time frenzy midway through. A moment of calm quickly comes and goes, before the call-and-response from the second drop sucks you in and spits you back out at the starting line. Sweet Teeth just gave a whole new meaning to the phrase “taste the rainbow.”
Available April 10 via MMAD Records.
