Beloved Hannover-based house stable This Ain’t Bristol isn’t showing any signs of slowing down this year with what it terms as its “good vibes movement.” For their next issue, they’re shoring up a new two-track EP for release at the end of this week from Australian producer Needs No Sleep, which the label thinks you’ll definitely dig. We’ve found ourselves agreeing, and hence we’re bringing you a preview of it’s flipside as our Track of the Day.
“Not My Question” is definitely not your average tech house track. Starting out somewhat unassuming and nondescript, it’s the atmospherics that are woven into an early breakdown that eventually takes the spotlight. It’s stripped-back for a minute or so, as its distorted vocal sample drops in alongside a slamming bassline. Though, its gritty atmospherics eventually rise to pulse again furiously, making this one particularly standout cut from Needs No Sleep.
“‘Not My Question’ started off as an idea I made in my studio one Friday night over a couple of beers,” he tells Insomniac. “I was aiming for a high-energy track with a driving bassline and a touch of something dark. I think I achieved this, and the end result being one of my favorite tracks I’ve made to date. It’s a pretty surreal feeling signing this EP, because This Ain’t Bristol was one of my dream labels when I first started Needs No Sleep. It feels pretty cool to be part of the gang now and have a release I’m really proud of on such a prestigious label.”
