Krafty Kuts Goes in With Dynamite MC on Funk-Fueled Glitch Bomb “Impact” [Free Download]

Street cred is something Krafty Kuts has more than enough of to go around. The living UK legend has had his hands deep in every possible crevice of beat culture, with an extensive history ranging from rolling with a B-boy breakdancing crew, calling the shots for multiple labels, ripping it up as a world-class turntablist, serving as one of the founding fathers of breakbeat, owning his own record store chain… and the list seems to go on forever. His name also carries significant weight as a producer, and the many awards sitting on his shelves at home should speak to that point. Krafty Kuts has been gravitating toward a new tempo in recent times, namely in the glitch-hop realm, and his latest single sees him leaning straight into the funk.

On “Impact,” he connects with longtime collaborator Dynamite MC, another formidable figure in his own domain. The master of ceremonies has been dominating the mic since his early days on pirate radio, while later going on to recite the realness for a host of heads including Andy C, DJ Zinc, Scratch Perverts, and more. Dynamite’s features with Krafty Kuts reach well into the double digits, and the combination of his slick bars and Kut’s bin-rattling beats always lands on the mark.

“All about making that ‘Impact’ on the dancefloor and kicking things off with the first track from my new EP—this is the perfect start,” Krafty Kuts tells Insomniac. “Been playing loads of 110 bass tracks out for a long time now in my set and can never have enough of that funky stuff. I feel this combines those elements of hard-hitting beats, catchy synth leads, funky hooks, and Dynamite’s powerful vocals to create that IMPACT!”

The aforementioned elements are all there, and they do exactly what was intended. Set to a loose and dirty rhythm, the track gets down on wonky synth progressions that slide around funky riffs, sleazy fills, quivering swells, and slabs of robust bottom-end. Dynamite MC waxes poetic with an effortless flow that adds a boost of self-assurance to this feel-good offering.
