Amsterdam Dance Event—casually referred to as “ADE” by its attendees—is THE weeklong party of the year. While by day it’s an industry conference, the place changes at night into a sprawling electronic music bonanza with countless events across 140 of the city’s clubs and venues. With so many of the biggest and best artists and record labels gathering in the Dutch capital, of course, the crew at This Ain’t Bristol had to get itself in on the action.
The label is celebrating with a special ADE-themed edition of their Selections album series, compiling 14 tracks from some of its favorite producers—including Maximono, Volac, Tough Love, Wongo, and Proxy.
Today, we’re previewing the wonky, quirky grooves of Josh Brown’s “Malfunktion” from the upcoming comp. The buzzing UK house artist has been known to touch on a slew of styles for the imprint in the past, and this offering shows him cranking out a booming belter backed by a rumbling bottom-end, low-slung drums, siren samples, and twisted textures.
“I made this track for the This Ain’t Bristol Takeover at Groove Cruise last year,” Josh tells us. “It’s inspired by a duo called Walker & Royce, who I met in Hannover, Germany, during a This Ain’t Bristol party. I loved the vibe and energy that Gavin brought to his set, and I tried to replicate that into a tune.”
We consider that goal to be in the bag, Josh.
