As we count down the days until Ivy Lab deliver their own unique brand of darkness at EDC Las Vegas, the North London crew hit us with an epic album we’re already marking as a future classic. While the now-duo (formerly a trio) has been smashing it from inception, nothing quite prepared us for the breadth of synapse-frying sizzle they bring to the album format.

Able to crush on the half-time tip with just as much energy as their brothers in the dubstep and drum & bass scenes, Sabre and Stray seem to have mastered the raw, atomic power the left-field, experimental side of bass music has to offer. From hip-hop to bass to drum & bass and beyond, the dreamscapes the crew are pulling from boil down to a heavyweight journey that their debut artist album, Death Don’t Always Taste Good, captures in all its furious glory.

While the album isn’t due to be released until May 11—on their own forward-thinking 20/20 LDN imprint—we thought we’d hit you with a little nugget of love you can spark up in the comfort of your home to get a taste of what Ivy Lab is cooking. It’s hard to pick just one favorite from the 12-track manifesto, but “Chic” in particular serves as a portal into the dark and twisted mindscape that Ivy Lab are kicking.

Drawing upon a wide palette of influences sure to ignite some half-remembered electro dreams from your younger years, this tune captures that inimitable ability of Ivy Lab to re-stitch seemingly disparate elements into a genetically superior entity that seems to evolve all on its own. Trust, this is one you don’t want to miss. So for now, hit the “Chic” and prepare for the rest of the Ivy Lab’s Death Don’t Always Taste Good LP to usher you into the future.

Available April 27 via 20/20 LDN.
