EDC has been around longer than some of the Headliners who waltz through the gates each year. Let that little nugget sink in for a second. Next year, EDC Las Vegas will return to the Motor Speedway, marking the 23rd installment of the festival since its humble beginnings as a local L.A. warehouse renegade. A lot has changed since those days—both for the festival itself and the dance music scene as a whole.
One of the most noticeable differences throughout the EDC timeline is the music. Genres have gone through repeated cycles. Some genres fell off the face of the earth. Sounds have sprouted out of subgenres, which have given birth to more niche microcosms of dance music evolution. Artists have also come and gone—while a few of the lucky ones have been able to stick it out through thick and thin.
As we prepare to head into 2019 and see what the future has in store, we figured it would be a great time to look back at some of the records that defined each year that EDC has been in existence. Take a flip through the history books with us by hitting up our 23 Years of EDC playlist above.
EDC Las Vegas 2019 takes place Friday, May 17, through Sunday, May 19, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. For more information, visit the official website.
