Hot on the heels of his Ease the Pain EP, Italian powerhouse Flashmob returns with a new number called “Drop the Bass.” It’s a pounding four-on-the-floor thumper that hits as hard as it does deep. And while it still has Flashmob’s signature house grooves, this track veers off in its own direction.

Rolling in with a traditional tech house beat, the intensity is immediately felt once the bombastic kick rams in. It’s a meaty hit that puts the hats in a slightly noisy, offbeat perspective. Jittery drums bump and skitter like lightning strikes across the mix, bringing house synths in and out, following the pattern.

The entire construction is held together by the type of deep-house vocals listeners are accustomed to; however, here they seem to be a semi-audible phone clip with sensual content. This is just left-field enough to keep with the theme of a tune that sits right outside of the norm. The funky bassline, body-moving rhythms, and deep-house attitude will keep the dancefloor happy, while the atypical style will keep those same movers and shakers on their toes.

“’Drop the Bass’ was created on a train whilst I was listening to the loopy sound of the wagon,” Flashmob tells Insomniac. “I was thinking about the sound that a train makes when it exits a tunnel and tried to translate that into a beat and break. The repetitive sounds that a train makes help put the mind into another state; this was my basis for the track.”

Available January 18 via Flashmob Records.
