The Sound of Drum & Bass is one of our most highly anticipated compilation album projects from the Viper Recordings family, and with the imminent release of their 2018 edition, we couldn’t wait to share with you one of our favorite bits off the release. Stacked from top to bottom with 30 tracks from across the entire span of the genre, the compilation lands just in time to be our go-to soundtrack, as we pile in the ride and begin road-tripping our way to EDC Las Vegas next month.
With massive chart-toppers from the likes of Matrix & Futurebound, Cyantific, Brookes Brothers, ShockOne, InsideInfo, Teddy Killerz, Mob Tactics, and more, it’s the 11 unreleased exclusives from heads like Dossa & Locuzzed, Ekko & Sidetrack, Trei, Insomniax, Des McMahon, Aktive, Octo Pi, and more, that serve as the creamy filling on this already sweet sensation.
Standing tall in the midst of all that heat is AKOV’s “Constellations.” With a smooth, acoustic-bass-driven groove and a silky male vocal laying down the foundation, the crisp and funky percussion and melancholic aura that haunts the proceedings make this one of those cuts that bring on the goosebumps and make you want to dance your way to the stars at the same time.
While AKOV fans may note the change from his usual tech-driven output, it’s an impressive and highly welcome one. As AKOV himself tells us, the tune “was a nice way to switch up my creative process. From featuring my own vocals, to working with samples of real instruments, the whole thing was unexplored territory for me.”
We’re more than happy to explore it with him, as AKOV dials in a sound that has to be felt as well as heard. The Sound of Drum & Bass 2018 full album is out this Friday, so be sure to check the rest of what the crew is cooking here.
