Discovery Music: Alumni Tracks You Should Know Vol. 49
We’ve put together some of our favorite tunes from Discovery Project alumni for you. We do this regularly, so keep checking in with the Alumni Tracks You Should Know series to see the latest and greatest from our Discovery Project artists.
Tom Ferry ft. Michaela Baranov “By My Side” (Truth x Lies Remix)
Recent Discovery Project winners Truth x Lies come correct on this remix for relative newcomer Michaela Baranov, a singer who blew minds on X-Factor with her gorgeous voice. The reworking sees the boys adding some club flavor to the framework through a deep and funky remix that makes great use of the original’s sultry vocals. The key to vocal tunes is to keep the focus front and center, and TxL have come through with a track with some classic elements that could easily stand on their own if need be.
Ciszak solidifies his booty-house gangsta status once again with this warped and wonderfully weird bass cut off of his latest EP. Led by a thumping low-end groove and some otherworldly synth action, “Oops” bumps and pulsates with a kind of quirky funk that makes you understand why this budding superstar is so heavily supported by the widely respected Dirtybird crew and Green Velvet.
Daun Giventi “Memories”
This year’s Beyond Wonderland SoCal featured two days of dedicated Dreamstate trance magic at Cheshire Cove. On Saturday, Daun Giventi kicked things off with a blissful, beautiful set of classics, while peppering in his own pumping grooves. He’s made some huge waves in the last two years, and his new release on Enhanced is no different. “Memories” teeters on the balance between progressive euphoria and pumping electro trance power.
Nima G “Primal” (Grensta Remix)
The West Coast sound is slinky, sexy, and dripping with psychedelic funk. Grensta is one of the rising stars from that world, and his sound has become synonymous with San Francisco. His recent remix for Nima G on San Fran’s Laser Native Records (owned by another DP alum, Vitamin Devo) oozes with low-slung beef that keeps the club pumping. In it, a tough 808 bassline leads into an unexpected tempo drop that gives the silky smooth synths some time to shine.
Flume “Never Be Like You”(DIV/IDE Remix)
Despite the half-life of a tune being immensely short these days, the occasional oddball single will still slip through the cracks and into the “timeless” category. Flume’s “Never Be Like You” from last year is one worth mentioning, and it has just been given a reimagining by DIV/IDE. I suspect this one has been rolling around in their DJ bag for quite a while now, but it still seems to slap like they made it yesterday. Adding a slick groove to the pop-leaning tune makes this one fit for the underground.Discovery Project Discovery Music Alumni Tracks You Should Know Daun Giventi DIV/IDE Ciszak Grensta Truth x Lies Show more
