No One Has Ever Been More Excited About Colorado than the Crowd at Global Dance Festival
Colorado has become a haven for EDM in the past few years. Thanks to a plethora of acts native to the Rocky Mountain State and entities like Global Dance Festival, EDM.com, Triad Dragons, and TRAPFEST, it’s safe to say that Colorado is the bass capital of America. Colorado devotees came to GDF in droves. Here are some of the biggest Colorado lovers we met.
Name: Josh Bisulca + Crew
Hometown: Castle Rock, CO
Number of Global Dance Festivals Attended: 5
Instagram: @jusjoshinit
A native from the bass capital of the world, Josh and his crew always personify the music. Global Dance Festival curates top-notch acts, and they would be remiss if they didn’t show up. The crew dedicated their weekend to the sounds of James Egbert, Wolfgang Gartner and Zedd. Can you blame them?
Name: Courtney Baudo / Keegan Windley
Hometown: Colorado Springs, CO
Number of Global Dance Festivals Attended: First one!
Courtney and Keegan were making their way to the entrance as we crossed paths on the hike up to the venue. They are a lovely couple living the true Colorado lifestyle: appreciators of the breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains, outdoor enthusiasts and lovers of all kinds of music. Courtney and Keegan declare Red Rocks the best place ever, posing the question, “What venue in the USA can compete with the scenery?”
Name: Jordan Malcara / Steven Deion / Friend
Hometown: Colorado Springs, CO
Number of Global Dance Festivals Attended: 3
These Colorado natives were getting down in the lower south lot when we encountered them. They stay steady, representing Colorado for the recreational marijuana. They couldn’t miss the chance to see Zedd, Carnage and Destroid. “Who wouldn’t jump at the chance to hear the sounds of these musical geniuses?” they asked. We agree.
Name: Ashlee Gutzke
Hometown: Denver, CO
Number of Global Dance Festivals Attended: First one!
“Colorado is magical,” Ashlee told us as we stole her away from her friends for a moment. She’s a GDF virgin and clearly creative, seeing as she made her Colorado flower from scratch. Ashlee told us she came to Red Rocks to meet new friends and enjoy the scenery, a common mindset among GDF attendees. The EDM lifestyle seems to embody that mantra even more.
Name: Alyssa Mergenthal
Hometown: Arvada, CO
Number of Global Dance Festivals Attended: First one!
Instagram: @wtfallie
Alyssa has been going hard all three days of Global Dance Festival. She has been “relieved by the Colorado pride in the air,” and Destroid absolutely, errrr, destroyed her world. The bass-monster trio featuring Excision, Downlink and Pendulum drummer KJ Sawka have really taken the music world by storm with their heavy metal-like show. Playing in Predator-esque costumes equipped with guitar-shaped controls, Destroid is bringing a much-needed live element to the dance world.
Name: Andy Williams + The Family
Hometown: Fort Collins, CO
Number of Global Dance Festivals Attended: 2
This motley crew is known as The Family. One of The Family members is a graphic designer and made them these custom shirts. The group only goes to shows as a family. Talk about some state pride. Also, crews like this are often the best way to attend big events like GDF. The strength-in-numbers mindset applies; it makes it easier for friends to stay together, to party safer and to dance together.
Name: Becca Shilder
Hometown: Denver, CO
Number of Global Dance Festivals Attended: First one!
Instagram: @coloradolimited
These two helped spread Colorado pride all weekend at GDF. Becca enjoyed the people-watching and sunshine while working in the merchandise area at the Colorado Limited booth. “Colorado Limited is a clothing brand you can literally be covered head to toe in,” says Becca. Based on what we’ve seen, they’re right.
Name: Casey Henry / Izaak Brown
Hometown: Boulder, CO
Number of Global Dance Festivals Attended: 2
Twitter: @Izaak30
Casey and Izaak waved their flag high and proud at the GlobalDanceMusic.com Stage when we met them. These guys are dedicated to Colorado. “I’m never leaving,” Izaak tells us. “This is the bass capital!”
Name: Victoria Schmidt / Noah Parker / Anna Hutchinson
Hometown: Denver, CO
Number of Global Dance Festivals Attended: First one!
Victoria and her friends had a blast all three days of GDF. Victoria has been amused by the people-watching. “It has been cool to see what everyone does with their flags.” Her friend, Noah, certainly had some style and creative expression in celebrating his Colorado pride.
Name: Christo Brumly
Hometown: Denver, CO
Number of Global Dance Festivals Attended: 5
Twitter: @boulderultimate
We caught Christo peddling hats in the Red Rocks parking lot. He was in attendance for both business and pleasure. He is part of the Grassroots movement, which has created hats for fans and artists for over five years. Their unique embroidery and limited, hand-sewn prints have helped them become one of the largest boutique lid companies in the world.
