Up-and-comer Michael Brun launched his own imprint Kid Coconut earlier this year, combining his love of dance music with the Caribbean culture he grew up in. Born in Haiti, he came of age listening to percussion-heavy ragga bands, attending beach parties, and soaking in the island sun. That upbringing has helped Brun develop a unique aesthetic that he uses in everything from his label to his productions (check out his latest mix of “Arkham”) to his live sets at Ultra, Coachella and more. We asked him to tap into his musical memory bank and share with us his favorite album artwork.

Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon

“I remember seeing the prism cover as a kid and just thinking it was so simple but cool. It’s instantly identifiable, and I think that’s very important for cover art.”

Disclosure All of their artwork

“Going on the trend of instantly identifiable album art, I love Disclosure’s “face” concept and how it marks all of their artwork without even needing any text.”

Basement Jaxx Scars

“Basement Jaxx started using a bunch of animal hybrids on their album art after Scars, but I still think this one was the coolest. It’s like some sort of future space-owl humanoid, and that’s awesome.”

Disney DConstructed

“This is a Disney remix album, so they had to have Mickey on the cover somehow; but the fact that they used cubes to tie in with the electronica theme is really sleek.”

Coldplay A Rush of Blood to the Head

“I love the fact that this looks like those glass cubes that have 3D images imprinted into them, and I think the image perfectly captures the title of the album.”
