Absolutely reaming my soft spot for classic cuts, Kid Crème shows up with a brilliant reimagining of Adeva’s “In and Out of My Life.” Originally put out there in 1988, the producer from Brussels brushes off her robust R&B-laced vocals and subsequently turns the whole piece on its side. A stripped-back, percussively driven intro builds enough tension to make the first hits of those slick synth lines feel like a long overdue earthquake. Once the joint gets grooving, pitched-down vocals play nice with the jackin’ rhythm, carrying on undisturbed until the lead comes in to steal the show. It’s so damn nice.
The Kid has kept this huge tune to himself—aside from the lucky few DJ friends he passed it out to—using it as a powerful tool in his sets. But now, he’s ready to hand it over to his supporters as a free download. If you’re lumped in that category, you have no excuse not to call this one yours immediately.
