Rave Romances: How Headliners Found Love on the Dancefloor
Who can forget the second letter of PLUR? Not these Headliners. From chance encounters on the dancefloor to breakups that turned into makeups, these Headliners prove that the couple that raves together stays together.
Amber: EDC Las Vegas 2013
My girlfriend Cari and I met two years ago at EDC Las Vegas. We had both been raving for years but had never crossed paths, because she was from Northern California and I was from Southern California. We had mutual friends in common and in 2013 all decided to go to EDC Las Vegas together. When I woke up in my hotel room the morning of EDC Las Vegas to Cari in a tutu ready to go to the festival at 10am, I knew it was love at first sight.
We started out playing this bashful flirting game: She told my friends I was cute, and I did the same. It was a total giddy high school romance at the beginning but blossomed into something big, something rare, and something one-of-a-kind. We’ve been falling in love and raving together ever since, and got to spend this past EDC Las Vegas together as a couple.
Raving is such an essential part of who we are as individuals and as a couple. We’ve been going to EDC since its L.A. days and will continue to make it to every event we can. We have found a family within the Insomniac community, and thanks to that family, we have found one another. The love we have is beautiful, and I will forever be grateful for Insomniac events because without them—without the love in the community and without the events—we wouldn’t have what we have.
We’d like to send love and light to everyone reading this. See you at the next event!
Mikey: Dada Land 2014
It all started when my best friend Alyssa began bugging me to attend an event with her. After flaking so many times, she bought my ticket to Dada Land so I would have no choice but to go with her. We stopped for supplies on our way to the event, and that’s when I met JJ.
Right off the bat, I thought he was a cutie, and obviously, he thought the same about me. Once we got to the campgrounds, settled in and slapped the wine bag a few times, we all hit up the silent disco. A while into dancing, we noticed Alyssa was missing (or so we thought). Being the amazing friend that I am, I went to look for her and brought JJ along. A couple of minutes into looking, JJ made the first move. After that, we were inseparable for the rest of the weekend.
Fast-forward seven months, and we have attended every Insomniac event in SoCal since then, remaining inseparable throughout.
Joanne: EDC Las Vegas 2011
Ray’s and my love story began four years ago, at EDC Las Vegas 2011. We went to the event as friends but came back as lovers. I knew Ray was the one for me when “sharing this moment with the one you love” was written on the screen during Above & Beyond’s set while he was holding me, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
I’m 22 years old, and Ray is 32. We are both in two separate parts of our lives, and if it weren’t for EDM, we would have never crossed paths. We both love the music and can’t imagine living without it. Ray has been raving since the ‘90s, and I’ve been raving for six years. Every time we go to an event, we connect on a deeper level than we can in our everyday lives.
Raving has opened up this happiness inside of us that we never thought we could have. It’s something that we just can’t compare to anything else, and it’s such a blessing that we can both share this together. We live a raver lifestyle; it doesn’t just stop at the events. We practice the principles of Peace, Love, Unity and Respect and are teaching his two boys these principles in life as well. We radiate our love and respect to the rest of our brothers and sisters and are referred to as the “mama and papa” of our rave family.
We want to finalize by giving a big thank-you to Pasquale and his team: Thank you, guys! If it weren’t for raving, we would have never found the love of our lives.
Alec: EDC Las Vegas 2014
Victoria and I first started talking March 2014 through Instagram. Her posts just gave off a vibe of peace, love, and passion for EDM, and that is something I admire. I eventually asked for her number, and she gave it to me with no hesitation. After talking, I realized she lived in Phoenix while I was in San Diego, which was quite a bummer. The distance didn’t stop us, however. We still talked and got to know each other’s personalities, sense of humor, favorite DJs and so much more, and that time period still plays a major influence in our relationship today.
We finally got to meet up at EDC Las Vegas later that year. When we saw each other for the first time the Thursday before EDC, I couldn’t help but smile. It was such a surreal experience. At EDC Las Vegas, I felt like a prince walking the racetrack with my beautiful princess. Eventually the weekend came to an end, and we both knew we would have to leave each other. To this day, I remember the last time I saw Victoria before she turned the corner for the elevator. That was when I realized she was the one.
We have been together ever since and couldn’t be happier. We try to go to as many shows together as we can and spend time with each other’s friends and family. Being in a long-distance relationship is hard, but sharing new music with each other, listening to it at the same time, or looking forward to listening to it together helps us forget the miles. I am glad life threw this glistening diamond of a woman my way, because I can’t imagine what it would be like if we never crossed paths.
Kevin: EDC Las Vegas 2014
In the fall of 2012, there was a particular girl who caught my eye in my programming class. I didn’t know her name, and it didn’t go very far, as I was too shy to say anything to her. A year later, we were both in the same chemistry class together (unbeknownst to us). When we both ran into each other at an extra credit assignment, I thought, “That’s the girl from my programming course!” She only remembered me as “the guy who always came in late with his motorcycle jacket and helmet on.” You could say there was instant chemistry.
We began talking about everything, including raves, and I left that day telling my friend how awesome she was. Once we had our first date, I came to find out that she had been going to every extra credit event looking for me and even asked her friend in my class to become my friend so he could introduce us. You could say we were a bit crazy in love!
We dated for several months before making it official on day two of EDC Las Vegas 2014 (specifically, at 3am on June 23). It couldn’t have been more perfect.
Andrea: Plurlife.com
Juan and I met through the Plurlife website and clicked instantly. We are both bass heads, and our hearts beat at 150 bpm. We are also two big goofballs and just love to have fun and dance our hearts out. He has been my ride-or-die babe for three years now, and I love him more and more every day. He is my rave soul mate and my best friend, and I like to picture our story as the kandi kid who fell in love with the DJ—the perfect harmony.
Juanita: EDC Las Vegas 2012
Our story began late in the summer of 2010, but it didn’t happen until 2012, when we attended our first EDC together. After seeing all the lights and hearing the music at EDC Las Vegas, we knew we were home. We have been going to EDC ever since and decided to make it official by getting married Under the Electric Sky last year. Our love is renewed and rejuvenated every time we attend an event. Going to these shows brings us to life, and we are truly grateful to be in a place where we can dance and express ourselves every time.
Breann: EDC Las Vegas 2012
I have known my partner since elementary school, but we didn’t start dating until 2012, when we went to our first rave together at EDC Las Vegas. It was one of the most magical times in my entire life, and halfway through David Guetta’s set, tears filled my eyes because I was so happy! Just being there with him and listening to the music was amazing, and something I will always remember. And as we continue onto our fourth EDC Las Vegas this year, I know that we will grow even closer Under the Electric Sky. No matter what, EDC will always hold a special place in our hearts, because it’s what brought us together as one.
Denisse: EDC Las Vegas 2014
I’ve met many beautiful souls through one of the EDC Las Vegas groups on Facebook. One day, I got a message from this really cute guy from the group, saying, “You’re breathtakingly beautiful. We should meet up at EDC Las Vegas.” I thought to myself, “Awww, who is this guy?” He made me feel so special, even though I had no idea who he was.
Days passed, and a strong, beautiful connection grew between Zach and me. It just felt right. Although he lives in Alaska and I live in San Diego, the distance didn’t stop us from developing strong feelings for each other. We couldn’t wait to finally be together Under the Electric Sky.
EDC Las Vegas finally came, and I was both nervous and excited. Zach and I tried texting each other but couldn’t, because there was no service. Since my phone wasn’t working, I put it on airplane mode to save battery. As I was walking around with my rave family—watching everyone dance, jump around and just be happy—I notice this cute guy sitting on a bench by himself. He caught my attention because he was the only one who wasn’t dancing. I just kept walking, but after staring at him, I remember thinking, “Oh my God, it’s him!” My heart stopped beating, and the world stopped spinning. Everything felt like it was in slow motion.
I ran to him and hugged him, and it was the longest and most beautiful hug ever. I couldn’t believe I was finally in his arms and couldn’t possibly let go. Being with him felt amazing.
After that, he smiled at me, and we held hands for the first time. We were walking, and he said he had texted me telling me he was going to be at that spot at that time. To me, it was destiny! EDC Las Vegas is huge, and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. We knew in that moment that we were meant to be. I gave him his first kandi, and we had our first kiss during Diplo’s set. I seriously have no words to describe how he makes me feel or how being with him at EDC Las Vegas felt like. It was just perfect.
After EDC Las Vegas, Zach and I went to Nocturnal Wonderland (where we met Mama Irene at the silent disco) and Escape: All Hallows’ Eve, and it’s been an amazing journey throughout. EDC Las Vegas changed our lives completely, and I’ll never forget those three days we spent together. Thank you, Pasquale, for bringing people together!
