Todd Terry & Man Without a Clue “Bass Pump” (Tee’s Mix)
There are not many names out there that can live up to the gold standard set by the almighty Todd Terry. A bona fide legend by definition, guy has taken up real estate in the dance music space as a household hero since he first showed his teeth in the early New York scene. He’s linked up with Holland’s Man Without a Clue to issue their burning-hot collab “Bass Pump,” due out next week on his own Inhouse Records. Here, Terry stamps the release with his trusted Tee pseudonym as he throws down a dirty, driving rework that could make the dingiest warehouses seem spick-and-span. A gut-gripping melody hits you straight in the solar plexus over and over, as it rolls atop a bed of shuffling percussion. It’s an extraordinary piece of work that can beguile even the most ordinary listeners.
Available June 21 via Inhouse Records.
Were you impulsive on this track, or did you have a sketch in mind before you started?
No plan. Alex made the track, and I added a few things and mixed it.
Who is the ideal person to remix this track?
Low Steppa. He has a good vibe going on now that would work really well on this track.
How do you measure success of a track?
I know it’s gonna be good if it doesn’t sound like all the other tracks out there.
Have you played this out in any of your sets?
I played it at Boothstock festival in Rotterdam last week. The crowd was moving; it rocked!
If this song were a color, what would it be?
It’s blue, baby. So, so blue.
