A certified legend on the jump-up side of drum & bass, the one they call Original Sin comes flexing hard on his shape-shifting four-track Red Mist EP for Futurebound’s Viper Recordings. While longtime fans of the UK-based artist know he’s never been one to shy away from defying genre expectations, Original Sin seems to herald a new chapter in his ongoing evolution as an artist with this jaw-dropping EP that takes things to an entirely new level.

“The Red Mist EP may have not originally been written for Viper (I’m a free agent currently, so I’m just writing music as I feel it at the time) but Brendan/Futurebound chose the tracks he liked from a batch I had and curated the EP,” he tells Insomniac. “It was also cool that it became home to the track I had written with [Viper artist] Jaguar Skillz a year or two ago, as it’s been going off on the dancefloor!”

From the futuristic, tech-driven “Expansions” to the rave-ready “Vandals Back” or dark and heavy “Red Mist,” from which the EP takes its name, it’s obvious that Original Sin isn’t just dabbling in a new sound but going all-in, proving he’s the king of the dancefloor no matter the vibe. Still, it’s this dirty little roller known as “So Vivid” that keeps us coming back for more, as the murky vibes come lurching out of the darkness with a commanding presence that has us chomping at the bit, waiting for the day we can hear this one on a proper system.

Available October 14 via Viper Recordings.
