Turntablism kicks off Matthew Anthony’s Legends EP series on his top-shelf imprint Perfect Driver with a tag-team double-sider of Detroit ghetto tech and Chicago mixmaster house, featuring DJ Godfather and WBMX veteran Bad Boy Bill. Inspired by the golden years of raving in “inner city warehouses and Midwest farm fields,” Anthony weaves some of yesteryear’s “first hit” high into new tracks by collaborating with its originators.

On “Girls,” DJ Godfather and Matt drop a master class in pitched-up vocals, lusty lyrics, skeletal rhythms, and thick booty bass. Banging on the flipside is “Do What You’re Told,” in which Anthony and Bad Boy Bill, known for spinning on four decks at once, bang out brutal electro house capped by a pitched-down vocal that sounds like uber-villian Jigsaw commanding you to jump, shake, and move. Its sinister vibe makes you wonder if haunted hostels shouldn’t be added to Anthony’s throwback party venue list.

“There’s an untold number of dance music legends living in the world today, and through the music we make together, I hope to highlight a few while providing enjoyment on dancefloors for clubgoers and DJs alike,” Anthony says.

So far, so good.
