Last year’s Systematics EP for the Hannover-based This Ain’t Bristol imprint dropped jaws across the board when fresh-faced 22-year-old Josh Brown smashed his way through house, techno, bass, jungle, and acid dancefloor killers. While the real OGs were getting grimy in dank warehouses across the globe right around the time the Brighton-based wunderkind was being born, it doesn’t seem to be holding Josh back as he prepares to take the signature “good house vibes” of This Ain’t Bristol and elevate them to an entirely new level.

With early support raining in from the likes of Billy Kenny, DJ EZ, Hannah Wants, Low Steppa, Maximono, Shiba San, and many more, the new three-track EP features Josh Brown smashing up bass and tech house with untouchable style, as bits like “Gargle” and “Want 2” keep the kick steady on the floor with just enough grit to keep the masses bouncing. The energy on these bits is unreal; it isn’t hard to envision sweat dripping off the walls while the bottom-end twists and warps its way out.

Still, it’s this underground killer, “Gully Dub,” that’s sure to have the heads jumping out of their skin and pounding the walls, begging for more.

“Most of the records I buy in Brighton are old-school jungle records. It’s the music I love, really,” says Josh of how this classic slice of junglism came together. “I originally made ‘Gully Dub’ for the birthday party of This Ain’t Bristol’s man behind the scenes, Benski (who is a huge drum & bass and jungle head as well). They seemed to sort of like it and added it to my EP instantly. Pretty awesome to have the freedom of releasing a jungle tune with my This Ain’t Bristol boys.”

Built on a rugged drum break that conjures up the classic era of drum & bass, once those chords and keys come easing in, you know you’re in flashback mode as the jazzy vibes and “jungle massive” vocal stab bring it all home to the drop. You may feel you know what you’re in for, but when that bassbin starts flexing and the bottom-end starts crushing on your ribs, you realize just how legit Josh Brown is as he keeps it moving with a warbling mid-1990s bassline for all the bassbin warriors out there hustling, sticking and moving until the break of dawn.

Like a breath of fresh air, this one will wash out those tired old synapses. Raise up your lightas as Josh Brown delivers the perfect dose of jungle love for a world gone mad. It hits the streets at the end of the week, so hold tight and wheel up the exclusive audio below!
