Cardiff duo Bodhi bring their four-on-the-floor wizardry back to the club on their newest EP, Outlook. Dropping next week via Huxley’s No Idea’s Original label, this EP proves to be a smooth melding of modern takes and classic sounds.

Today’s premiere, “Whalin,” is a prime example of Bodhi’s magic. Sprinting right off with a captivating house groove, the rhythms have a deep garage lean. As the equally classic, jungle-dipping vocals roll through, the entire structure takes a legacy nod. Weave in some expertly scene-setting samples, and you’ve got something catchier than a cold on the subway. But not to be pigeonholed, the work has a firmly modern flow strolling through in its own subtle way, from a leaden kick to some noisy embraces.

In fact, after the break, it becomes apparent what a modern warehouse feel the low-end actually carries here. With its ability to shine through, stemming from the minimal and skillfully restrained alchemy of its creators, this track knows just how much of each element to swirl in to fully captivate any group of warm bodies.

Available December 9 via No Idea’s Original.
