Disclosure‘s Caracal arrived this year prepped and polished like a mint Aston Martin.  With superstar features from the likes of the Weeknd, Sam Smith and Lorde, we expected nothing but perfection. And how could it not be? Even if they delivered Settle 2.0, it would’ve been an easy contender for album of the year. Unfortunately, Caracal packed little under the hood, but hopefully afforded them enough crossover credibility into the pop market to allow them the flexibility to go back to making dance tracks, because the world could use another “White Noise.”

The silver lining is that the brothers have enlisted some A+ artists for remix duty, and the results thus far have been stellar (Claptone, Jonas Rathsman and Claude VonStroke, to name a few). Even Dillon Francis turned in a sensible rework of “Omen” that leans on the R&B backbone of the track, but he injected enough of a turbo boost to make it effective for the floor. Here’s to hoping he continues to channel his inner DJ Hanzel, because this is definitely some of his best work to date.
