Cabrillo Shakes Out a Slinky House Record With “Body Don’t Stop”
While those already in the know will be quick to tout Cabrillo’s suaveness in the studio, they’ve yet to see what he’s packing in the multi-track-release department. But UK imprint Form & Function is here to change all of that, as they get behind the first EP forged by the Los Angeles-based debutante. The titular cut “Body Don’t Stop” sees him manipulating an instantly recognizable sample pulled from Khia’s bawdy rump-shaker from the ‘90s, using it to full effect to create a nutty house record. In regards to the tune, Cabrillo had the following to say:
Had a blast making “Body Don’t Stop.” It all started with the Khia sample late one night after going out with a few friends. The DJ where we were at dropped “My Neck, My Back” randomly about five minutes before we left. I couldn’t get that short “Don’t stop, don’t quit” line out of my head, so I decided to fire up Ableton. I chopped out that sample, repeated it a few times, and the vibe just went from there. Something about that short phrase and that nostalgia that comes with it makes this track pretty infectious.
The boosted vocals are chopped and tumbled around in time with a slinky bounce. Backed by jarring chord stabs and brisk drum work, Cabrillo will have heads popping it good every time he shakes out this number.
