Argüello “Platonic Love”
Miguel Argüello, or simply Argüello, has been catching ears like crazy since signing with RKJ Music last year. The Columbian-born, Los Angeles-based up-and-comer is absolutely on fire as he continues to forge an impressive array of genre-dismissing originals, edits and remixes. Today, he returns to his RKJ home base to drop his latest single, “Platonic Love.” Resting on the chiller end of the dance music spectrum, the track is an emotionally charged affair that boasts somber piano melodies, despondent violin phrases, and deeply moving vocal lines. Raw and heart-rending, Argüello inflicts real-life feelings onto the dancefloor here. It may sound strange, but I think this track really seems to understand me.

How does this production reflect your personality/ethos?
It reflects my emotional side. I identify myself with all those “dramatic” melodies—plus the kind of sounds I used to create the track, like violins, pianos and vocals. Maybe the song could fit as a soundtrack for any of your life moments.
Who is the ideal person to remix this track?
I have many people in mind to remix it; one of them is Mas Tropical, pretty nice producers from the US, who are making pretty nice tropical house—not Kygo’s style, something more organic. Of course, I would like if someday someone like Major Lazer, Cashmere Cat or Manila Killa remixed it.
What’s your favorite sound/synth/effect/etc. used here?
I would say the vocal samples, because I like how they transmit the feelings with the melodies; and because the lyrics are quite abstract, people can imagine or maybe create their own meaning of them.

Maybe the love for someone who cannot be with you—that is the overall topic and idea. But one feeling would be “melancholy.”
