It’s all incline right now for Alex Preston. The Aussie has been on a nonstop sizzle with his bangers getting bumped by all the names you could ever want to cosign on your artistic cred. His latest, “Chasing Ghosts,” is arguably his stickiest single to date—a supercharged future house favorite that sees singer Chris Arnott laying down a vocal hook so huge you could hang your entire wardrobe on it.
It doesn’t stop there, though. Preston is taking things up a notch by appointing a rock-solid list of his peers to kick out remixes for a proper package. Standing out from the bunch is this zestful take from Chris Gresswell. The UK riser saves a seat in the house for the strummed and key-ridden build (making sure not to cut the haunting topline, either), while paying homage to the unsinkable bassline extracts from his homeland.

Creatively, how did the work on this track stack up to previous studio sessions? Was this more challenging to complete than others?
The track came together really nicely and pretty quickly once I had Chris’ vocal. I spent a lot longer on getting the mix right. I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to mixing down, and I spent so much time on getting this one right!
What’s your favorite sound/synth/effect/etc. used here?
I definitely love the piano in the breakdown. It’s so warm and uplifting, and the chords are in such a nice register for the keys. It works so well with the vocal.
Were you impulsive on this track, or did you have a sketch in mind before you started?
I’m always very impulsive when I produce; I never like to have too much of plan. I love trying things out and seeing what works and why. It was the same with “Chasing Ghosts.”
Have you played this one out in any of your sets? If so, what was the response?
This track always gets such a good response, which is so good! Every time I’ve played it, the crowd always sings along with it!
Was there one particular moment in the recording or mixing process of this track that made you feel as though you were creating something pretty damn special?
Definitely: When I heard Chris’ vocals working with my chords, I was like, “Yeah, this is a vibe!”
