Projections is an ongoing DJ mix series dedicated to showcasing Discovery Project alumni who continue to push boundaries with their music.

It’s been just shy of a year since Fransis Derelle first took the stage at Countdown NYE 2015. His Discovery Project win was a much-deserved result of the unquestionable talent he came at the judges with. At the time, he had already amassed a sizeable following from a sound that blends bangin’ beats and deeply emotional melodies. His ability to fuse mass appeal with the rawness pulled from the soulful bass bin has continued to add bodies to a deeply devoted fanbase. His releases—most of which are offered completely free—regularly reach into hundreds of thousands of streams, and his live sets have seen him hit festivals and clubs with his unique brand of future bass and hype trap.

Within the last year, Derelle has received an avalanche of support from across the industry. Most recently, he was invited onstage for a surprise back-to-back set with LVMBERJACK and 12th Planet for the Seattle stop of the latter’s Smog Records 10-year anniversary tour. His recent collaboration with NIGHTOWLS is an official remix of Adventure Club’s “Dreams,” which just hit the top of SoundCloud’s Hot & New chart—a testament of the success he has achieved in his short career.

For his Projections mix, he has blessed us with an hour’s worth of straight-up dopeness, as he blasts through nearly 40 tunes representing the brilliant diversity of bass music. Dig in below, after hearing directly from Derelle himself:

Growing up, I was always influenced by the hip-hop side of music and did not even know what electronic music was. One day back in 2008, while in math class, I overheard a group of kids talking about a rave and thought it sounded interesting. I ended up gathering a few friends together and checked it out. I was amazed by the scene, people, music, and culture and instantly became hooked. I attended my first EDC in 2010 and, in that moment, knew music was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It’s crazy to think that attending a random event eventually turned into growing fans from all over the world and even turning idols into friends. It truly is a blessing.

I really wanted this mix to represent who I am. My style is very fast-paced and heavy, but also very melodic—and I think this really shows that. It features many of my originals, remixes, collaborations, and a few unreleased songs. I have been working on many new projects lately and am really excited to share them with you all in the near future!
