In 2017, Dirtybird cofounder Christian Martin launched his own signature underground label, Trippy Ass Technologies. On his latest EP release, Fantastic Planet, the Bay Area–based artist turned to another Dirtybird collaborator to craft two solid tracks for the peak-time dancefloor.

“My first co-production with Ardalan was ‘Flight of the Pterodactyl,’ on Dirtybird’s Secret Sauce BBQ compilation in 2016,” he told Insomniac. “We’re both huge fans of the minimal techno sound that emerged around 2007—huge kicks, brain-warping melodic synth sequences, and relentless grooves that can captivate you for hours.”

“The Fantastic Planet EP is the logical continuation of our mutual admiration for minimal’s golden age,” he adds. “The title track unspools over seven minutes, eventually reaching a gnarly sawtooth payoff. The B-side, ‘Supermoon,’ bounces straight into orbit, backing off the melody, leaning on idiosyncratic percussion, paranoid vocals, and a deep, foundational bassline. One for the late-night, open-air, full-moon parties.”

Stream “Supermoon” below—and be sure to catch Christian Martin and the DB crew at the Dirtybird Campout East Coast at Forever Florida, February 2–5, 2018.

Available December 1 via Trippy Ass Technologies.
