Light Year

Origin: None

Light Year came to be, many aeons ago, in a celestial orb – just slightly to the east in one of Australia’s dance music capitals, Sydney. Light Years early productions, dabbling in house and electro, were supported and played by a wide range of the worlds foremost peak time selectors culminating in a personalized artwork and feature in the now classic 2manydj’s live show. It wasn’t until Light Year released “Moderation” on Bang Gang 12 inches that he truly found his feet as a producer. Moderation made waves within the electronic music scene with Tensnake & Tiga calling it one of their favourite tunes of 2012. Between original productions, Light Year has turned his hand to remixing, with impressive reworks for global sensation Tame Impala and indie darlings Flight Facilities.

2013 saw a definitive move to the UK to allow himself to settle and hone his craft. The move paid instant dividends as Light Year enjoyed a very successful year in the studio with noteworthy releases on distinguished labels Turbo, Convex Industries and This is Music.

In March 2014, Light Year released his first EP with seminal US label Ghostly/Spectral with much critical acclaim and subsequent support from tastemakers. Later that year Light Year released his first of two EP’s through Berlin based imprint Exploited Records called Never Know. Never Know saw a slight departure from the club based sounds he is best known for providing the listener with a slightly more organic take on sample driven house music. Now he welcomes 2015 with the final installment in his EP series for Exploited titled Feeling This Way set for a March 9th release. The title track is already gaining momentum on Triple J & FBi and has also featured all the way across the sea on BBC radio 1. This EP sees a return to the more club focused sounds taking influence from Booty and early Chicago trax artists. 2015 is set to be a big year of releases with some surprises in store but for now Light Year will continue to work hard behind a rack of drum machines and synthesizers, in his studio, making sounds to merge the global dance floor community into a singular consciousness of light, sound and dance.
