Music has always played a huge role in my life. Regardless if I was learning how to play an instrument, or just listening to tunes all day every day, I was in love from the start. I started listening to EDM in 2008 after going to my first event. I instantly fell in love with the scene and everything that surrounded it. Before the rave scene, while I was in middle school slash high school, I was really into rock, punk, oldies (rock) and alternative music. During that time, I was constantly involved with music in my school band. I first started playing the trumpet, then the French horn in orchestra. Aside from playing in the school concert slash marching band, listening to, and creating any type of music has always felt like it was right, and something that came naturally to me. The more I started trying to find ways to interpret my feelings through it, the more addicting it became, and now there’s no looking back.

Interview

Home Town: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Currently Living: Chatsworth, CA
Origin Of Name: The name “Kundo” actually came from a nickname people would call me in high school slash middle school. It just stuck with time.
Weapon of Choice: Dub Bass Monsters!
Source of Power: Some of my biggest influences would have to be Skrillex, Figure, Protohype, Diplo, Munchi, Alvin Risk, Pegboard Nerds. There are so many amazing artists that have inspired me to do what I do.

Was there one particular moment in the recording or mixing process for your Discovery Project entry that made you feel like you were creating something pretty damn special?
I wasn’t really thinking about it too much. I just knew I had to produce something to the best of my ability and that’s mainly what I focused on. It wasn’t until I received the email notifying me that I was a winner that it set in as a reality.

Are there any dots to connect with where/how you grew up to your musical output?
I would have to credit my mom. She enrolled my in my first concert band, and always pushed me to stay involved with it. Although it was a trumpet being forced down my throat.

What do your parents think of what you are doing?
My mother is happy with what I’m doing. Even though my accomplishments aren’t huge yet, she supports it, and enjoys that I’m doing something that I love to do.

What’s the biggest misconception about being a DJ?
People assume it’s not as difficult as making music in other forms, when in reality it takes just as much or more skill to be a great producer and DJ.

Do you have any memorable moments from past EDC’s or any other Insomniac party?
My most memorable Insomniac moment would definitely have to be performing at Nocturnal Wonderland.

What is your ultimate career dream?
My ultimate goal would be to tour all over the world, and play my music for as many people as I can.

Are you impulsive with your work or do you have a sketch in mind before you start?
Sometimes I have a clear idea of what it is I’m trying to accomplish when I start on a project, but a lot of times just getting lost in the feeling is all I need to start something.

What’s the most important piece of gear in your studio?
My laptop. Without it I wouldn’t be making EDM.

If we pressed Shuffle on your iPod while you went to the bathroom, what would you be embarrassed to come back to us listening to?
Nothing. I’ve always been very passionate about loving the music I love regardless of who does, or what they think of it!

What sound or noise do you love?
Super deep growl bass.

What advice would you offer someone thinking about entering the Discovery Project competition?
Stay true to yourself and whatever reasons you have for doing it. Work hard, push your boundaries, and stay dedicated!
