Conro

Origin: None

Canadian producer Conor Patton, better known as Conro, was always destined to make a name for himself as a musician. Born into a musical family, Conro started playing violin at the tender age of seven, and later went on to play in the Saskatoon Youth Symphony orchestra for a total of three years. A burning desire to spread his talents soon took over, as he took up piano, guitar, and the drums, passions that continue to glow bright to this day.

Yet the world of dance music was still some distance away from the young Conro, who initially cut his teeth playing in local rock n’ roll and alternative bands, gaining respect and a following in his local community. His first foray into self-production was also fairly far removed from electronic music, as he wrote and recorded two self-released folk albums, his first project under the Conor Patton name. His intense musical background soon morphed into the sound he’s become most well known for, one that demonstrates an eclectic range of influences. Conro’s style of electro house includes subtle creative nods towards his older work, and blends in aspects of rock, garage, and disco.

It was while living in a 25ft trailer, working as security in a boat yard, that Conro got his first big break. His debut release ‘Axiom’ was signed to Kindergarten at the tail end of 2012, and after hitting #8 on the Beatport electro house charts, his rapid journey through the crazy world of dance music has been non-stop ever since. Support from some of the biggest names on the scene soon followed, with Conro seeing his music championed by the likes of Porter Robinson, Tommy Trash, Knife Party, and plenty more. While his productions were setting the dance music world on fire, Conro took his first steps into touring, joining the Bassjackers and Dyro on a North American bus tour in 2014, a year that also saw him share a stage with the legend that is Wolfgang Gartner at the iconic Avalon Hollywood in front of 2000 fans.

In the meantime, Conro’s catalogue of stellar productions continued to grow, with releases on the likes of Armada, Revealed, and WOLV. His Dyro collaboration ‘Bittersweet’, which featured the vocals of Envy Monroe, proved to be his biggest hit to date, gaining massive support from a multitude of big names, and still being spun live to this day.

Yet while the intensive world of hit records and live tours is now very much a part of Conro’s life, he’s keen to ensure he remains grounded, for the sake of his music and his sanity. Currently, he lives on a chicken farm in his native British Columbia, close enough to the bright lights of Vancouver to remain in touch with city life, but surrounding himself with enough peace and quiet that he can grow as an artist, and further nurture his musical talent.

The future certainly looks bright for Conro, with a musical ability and a knack for kicking out top-notch productions, bettered only by his solid drive and relentless determination to make music that matters. There’s clearly going to be plenty more Conro in our lives in future, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for more from dance music’s next big thing.
