New York’s 4B has without a doubt developed a sound all his own, using his foundation in the Jersey club scene as a jump-off point to break new ground with a hard-edged take. He’s just been tapped by Lil Skies—who has reached SoundCloud rapper royalty status—to remix his Billboard-chart-topping single, “Red Roses.”
“I have been a fan of Lil Skies for a while, so working on this in between my own singles was inspiring,” 4B tells Insomniac. “Really excited about how this song came out, because I feel like it shows my style but still keeps the authenticity of Lil Skies.”
4B wastes no time setting up the tone with a bed of dark, smoothed-out synths. Lil Skies’ flow and lyrics sync up effortlessly over a laidback broken beat. None of this, though, prepares you for the wild drop that slams down soon after, with heavy 808 basslines matched with a headbang-worthy splattering of scratchy synthwork and horn hits. While 4B is known as one of the kings of Jersey club, he makes you wait for that iconic kick pattern to step up the energy and send the track off on a huge outro.
