If there’s one crew defining the sounds of summer, it’s the booty bass-masters over at dirtybird via their celebrated dirtybird BBQ party series, which is currently touring the nation. It all culminates this October with the first-ever dirtybird Campout in Southern California, where label boss Claude VonStroke and co. will celebrate their 10-year anniversary.

One of dirtybird’s go-to acts powering summer 2015 is Ardalan, the fresh-faced producer paving the future sound for the imprint. The Iran-born artist brings the nasty in his body-rocking DJ sets, but the magic truly happens in his funky basslines and bouncing house beats. He broke ground with two major assists from mentor and fellow dirtybird Justin Martin: 2010 party anthem “Mr. Spock” and again at the beginning of this year with “Function,” a nonstop ass-shaking affair, which allowed him global internet stardom. And let’s not forget Ardalan’s vicious The Yeah / No EP, an unstoppable pairing of bass and melody. His latest track, “It Doesn’t Want,” is featured on the upcoming dirtybird BBQ: Grill$on’s Revenge compilation, out July 24, and is already burning up dancefloors and backyard BBQs across the US. Says Ardalan:

One of my favorite summers, besides the one that I am in right now, was the one from 2013. I graduated from college and began my summer season with a private party my homies threw, called Ghost Town. I then ended up living in Ibiza for two months with the dirtybirds. It was my first time in Europe, and it was insane! We toured all over Europe and ended up in places like Switzerland and KaZantip (Ukraine). I have so many great memories from that trip, and I really got to know Claude VonStroke that summer.

As the sweltering sun intensifies, Ardalan gives us nine tracks heating up his summer. Grab your sunscreen, and peep these jams.

Minor Science “Closing Act”

I played this track the first time I DJed at Output in New York. It is one of those gems that can be played and listened to wherever you are. It has really nice textures that sound like dolphins waking up for breakfast or something like that.

I think it would destroy the dancefloor during a sunset or sunrise.

Billy Kenny “I Eat Beats” (Ardalan Remix)

I don’t usually know how to describe my tracks, but I am really happy with the way this came to be. It really gets the audience up, courtesy of the beautiful parts from the original. I used the MS20 for the G-housey leads in the break, and it really made the track come out of the box.

Kill Frenzy “H.O.U.S.E.”

Mr. Jean Claude van Booty delivers again with the metallic-sounding banger that is “H.O.U.S.E.” I love this tune. It has such a different tone, and I like the lil’ vocal fills of Sebastian’s voice saying “now.”

The Viewers “Blank Images”

This has been my secret weapon for the summer. It’s one of my favorite tunes, and it’s from 2007. I pretty much love everything that came out from that year. This tune doesn’t sound like a banger, but it has its own magic. Every time I play it, people start clapping with it. Pure magic.

Astronomar & Bot “Sea Breeze”

I believe “Sea Breeze” from Bot and Astronomar is an instant summer anthem. It has everything it needs to make you feel the cool breeze coming from the ocean. I almost play this in all my sets and never get tired. It has a good chunk of bass and groove, while keeping things all warm and summer-filled.

Joeski “This Is Acid”

“This is Acid” is like if the 303 and the sun had a lovechild. Super warm vibes with raw acid lines never go wrong. I really like the groove on this. Super laid-back, but very funky.

Aphex Twin “Windowlicker” (Run Jeremy’s X-Rated Lick)

I had to include this classic re-edit of “Windowlicker” by Aphex Twin. It doesn’t really need any introduction except that it destroys it every time. I get goosebumps when I listen to it. It turns “Windowlicker” into a club-friendly monster. I enjoy mixing it as well, and letting it ride along with the next song.

BADBADNOTGOOD “Kaleidoscope” (Kaytranada’s Flip)

Kaytranada’s rework of this classic tune is amazing, as always. I love how much soul it has. Pretty much everything Kaytranada touches has lots of soul. This tune is so nice and mellow that it makes you wanna just daydream. Sometimes you just gotta take a break and let everything flow like a lazy river. (Now meditate.)

Vhyce “Be the Same” (Fake Blood Remix)

Fake Blood’s recent tracks have been amazing. This new remix bangs it really hard while maintaining warm melodies. The bassline has so much power and emotion, and it just really does a fine job of keeping things raw and colorful.
