Dance music festivals are by far the most welcoming places on earth. People from all walks of life flock to these gatherings knowing they are entering a judgment-free zone where anyone and everyone has the option to express themselves however they see fit. It’s this open door policy that attracts the most colorful spirits to the dancefloor, and we spotted so many of them parading around proudly throughout the weekend at Nocturnal Wonderland. And it’s second nature for us to want to break out the camera and fire up our microphones to let awesomeness shine on well after the last beat drops.

These are but a few of the fun-loving Headliners who had it going on at Nocturnal this past weekend.

Name: Athena
Age: 21
Hometown: Ventura, CA
Occupation: Waitress and student
Number of Nocturnals: 2

What’s your spirit animal and why?
Either a wolf or a dragon. My mascot in high school was a dragon and I’ve always been into mythical creatures.

Are there any festival traditions you currently practice that you hope to pass down to future generations?
Be open to finding new people to join your group. We always meet people at every festival we go to and we try to reconnect with them. It’s fun. We’re meeting up with some people we actually met last year.

Name: Seth
Age: 23
Hometown: NorCal
Occupation: Small business owner
Number of Nocturnals: First one

What’s your spirit animal and why?
Probably a sloth because I feel like they’re not lazy but they don’t really do a lot. They live a long time. Or actually, let’s go with a tortoise; they don’t do shit and they live for like 150 years!

Are there any festival traditions you currently practice that you hope to pass down to future generations?
They call me the collector because I just run around and meet as many people as I possibly can and I just bring them into our group. We all wear unicorn horns; that’s something we pass along everytime we meet someone new or someone by themselves, actually. We try to pick them out, like “Hey, there’s no reason you need to be alone or feel like you can’t talk to anyone.”

Name: Plur Rabbit

What’s your spirit animal and why?
A rabbit, because they are lucky.

Name: Megan
Age: 26
Hometown: Austin, TX
Occupation: Spin instructor
Number of Nocturnals: First one

What’s your spirit animal and why?
A unicorn. For a really long time, I felt like I was trapped in my own skin. After I went to my first rave, which was EDC, I kind of just identified with all of the sparkles and the glitter and being my own person. Being free—I’m a believer and lover of the being wild aspect.

Are there any festival traditions you currently practice that you hope to pass down to future generations?
I think it’s really important to come in with no expectations. Before I go to festivals, I kind of relive my past festivals and be in those memories and remember how amazing it was when I went in with no expectations of what it could be and just let it happen. So, I always try to do that right before.
