If you’ve ever wanted to rave underwater, among the Egyptian pyramids, or in outer space, now you can. Joshua Brassy, aka LifeBeats, takes your favorite festival shots and edits them to create artwork that is nothing less than out-of-this-world (just check out the photo gallery below). The 31-year-old Sacramento, CA native attended his first rave at a skating rink in 1999, and he has now found a way to elevate those moments that mean so much to so many of us.

“Those goosebumps you get when you hear your favorite song, or those chills that run through your body when you watch something really moving—my goal is to make you feel those.”

How do you make your images?
First and foremost, I would like to give the photographers all the credit in the world for their work. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to edit beautiful photos. The photos are not owned by me, and I do nothing but edit and share them.

I usually find photos off Insomniac’s Facebook page. When I first start editing, my goal is to make the shot mind-blowing, unique and most importantly, come alive. I start off with editing the sky or background, giving the shot new scenery—like space, mountains, or the forest. Once I have a general theme going, I start adding elements, changing colors and adding effects to make the photo even more vibrant.

I’m trying to capture feelings, moments and emotions in every design, hoping people see the same vision I have. My inspiration has and will always be my love for the rave scene. Everything I make comes from the passion I have for raving.

How long do your projects take?
My designs can take anywhere from a day to a week to make, depending on what type of design I am doing. Then, editing the pictures and videos usually takes a few more days.

What’s your favorite image that you’ve made?
My favorite image would have to be EDSEA, because I think imagining something unreal and making it come to life is really amazing. My favorite video is my recent EDC edit because I love the colors, and it captures exactly how I see EDC.

Tell us about the Mama Irene shirt you made.
Dance music allows you to express yourself freely, dance without judgment, love everyone and unite with the world. Mama Irene was a shining example of that and how we should all strive to be. She was a beautiful woman inside and out, and her personality set a great example for everyone. She made a lasting impression on me, and I made a tribute video and T-shirt in her honor. The shirt is meant to give back to the community and to keep her spirit and love alive. The shirt says “Paradise Kids” because that’s what she called all the ravers she met, and I want that to stay with the scene always.

What message do you wish to convey with your art?
I hope to spread love, unity and passion by capturing peoples’ feelings through my pictures and videos.

What is your favorite rave memory?
My favorite rave memory will always be EDC Las Vegas 2013, the rave that changed it all. Walking down those stairs, getting your first glance at the Speedway, and the mind-blowing stages, the vibes and music is life-changing. I remember talking with friends about how cool it would be to work or make things for Insomniac. After EDC I went home, and that’s exactly what I did and will continue to do.

How can people find your artwork?
I’m working with several people in the industry and have some exciting projects coming. If you would like to see more of my work and what’s to come, follow LifeBeats on Facebook and Instagram.
