Just when the summer of 2009 was ending, Joy Orbison’s career took off with the release of Hyph Mngo, a single for the history of dance music of this century, prologue and at the same time epilogue of the fleeting post-dubstep trend, one in a million. The critics pointed to Orbison as the new virtuoso of British electronic music, but he decided to take it easy: the following decade was dedicated, in addition to DJing all over the world, to carefully perfecting his skills as a producer with only a few singles and some remixes. A route that resulted in still slipping vol. 1, his first mixtape, a release that was crowned among the great releases of 2021 made for the clubs but also introspective: somewhere between dance and feelings, Joy Orbison has marked his own timing.
