As I Am “Vegas Love”

The name As I Am has been flying off the tongues of some of house music’s greatest lately, as the UK producer continues to rack up ace accolades through his heater-after-heater track run. The recent Defected signee is about to fire off his latest bit for Azuli records in the middle of May, and it’s an appositely bass-driven production that’s done in the same manner of the low-end-lusting sound he’s managed to etch out for himself. Bubbly and refined for four-floor devotees, “Vegas Love” bolsters supernatant basslines that casually flirt with beguiling piano stabs as if the two were warming up to each other on an extremely melodious first date.

How does this production reflect your personality/ethos?
People either love it or hate it; that’s my motto. I can be very self-critical at times, which I consider healthy. The best thing as a producer is to enjoy the music you’re making, rather than beating yourself up about how it should sound or comparing it to other tracks. Me as a person, I am the same: upfront, like my music.

Who is the ideal person to remix this track?
Todd Edwards would be one of my all-time favorites to mix one of my tracks. Since I started out listening to his music back in 1997, I have always admired the way he cuts vocals and the use of stems in his remixes. But Groove Armada would also be in the same shout. Some of their tracks are simply inspiring.

Describe the best setting/activity to hear this track.
A pool party; the sun is blazing and the music blasting away. The first drop only lasts 30 seconds and falls straight back into a break, where the piano is introduced. The poolside setting was what I had in mind for this. I kept the first drop short and sweet before bringing in the poolside vibe.

If this song were a color, what color would it be?
Sky-blue faded into bright amber… for obvious reasons! Blue skies and the bright sunshine! Bring on the summer!!!
