Like Richard Linklater’s life-spanning flim Boyhood, the new video for Manufactured Superstars’ “Carry You Home” continues an extended love story that began in the “Great Escape” video, also from their debut album, Party All the Time. “Boy meets girl at a rave. They have a great relationship. They separate, then meet back up at one of our shows several years later, still longing for each other. They come together during a party scene and end up happy,” says Shawn Sabo, one half of the duo, from their hometown Denver studio. “Doing it in two parts is a great way to do long video and tell a story.”

“We always try to be different with our videos,” agrees Brad Roulier, his music and business partner of more than a decade. “We did our big party videos in 2011 with our first EP. Everybody is doing quick edits right now. We wanted to do the opposite of that and tell a long-form story. We shot some of it at Shawn’s house in City Park, near where we live, and by Beta, our club. We wanted to do something personal—although we aren’t in the video very much,” he jokes, referring to their limited appearance behind the decks at the end of the clip. “We’ve been around for a long time. People know what we look like. We didn’t need to be the face of the video this time.” It’s a humble gesture from two guys known for blitzing through hundreds of tracks and likely mashing as many genres while wearing NASA jumpsuits.

The rave generation twist on a classic love story is perfectly suited to the effusive single featuring Italian crooner lossa’s soulful voice belting out introspective lyrics that ask, “Where is home?” On the surface, the song and video suggest that the dancefloor can feel like home, but ultimately that sacred space lies where love lives in all its messy, complicated and healing glory.

Party All the Time and the “Carry You Home” remixes are out now on Dutch powerhouse Black Hole Recordings.
