Enduring techno pioneer Richie Hawtin has long been known for embracing the different ways in which technology can be fused with music, and he’s got a rather exciting and mysterious new project on the horizon. It’s been announced that Hawtin is collaborating with Allen & Heath on new musical hardware that’s being referred to as Play Differently.
“The ethos of Play Differently is to create products that will magnify the individuality and expand the creativity of today’s generation of electronic music artists, producers and DJs,” Hawtin announced at the annual winter National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) conference. “We hope to encourage and inspire creatives to PLAY Differently.”
While the new hardware remains shrouded in mystery at this stage, Hawtin revealed that it has been in the works for the past few years. The picture unveiled on the product’s new website suggests that it will be a new variation of DJ controller. Hawtin has also long been an outspoken user of Allen & Heath hardware, particularly the company’s influential Xone:92 DJ mixer.
Will Play Differently represent a technological revolution for DJ mixers, or instead offer an evolution of existing solutions? Stay tuned to Insomniac for further news, and check out our special NAMM feature for further details on what went down at the conference.
